Entrants will be judged by a committee of pipeline experts selected by the IPCE Organizing Committee.
WHERE: International Pipeline Conference & Expo (IPCE) 2026, Calgary, AB, CA, September 21 – 25, 2026
HOW: During the draft submission process select that your paper qualifies as a student paper. A select number of finalists will be chosen from all student paper submissions to participate in the Competition.
DEADLINE: Abstract Submission deadline, January 9, 2026 (student papers share the same deadlines and formatting requirements as any technical paper at IPCE).
Competition guidelines:
1) A full-length paper must be officially submitted to the IPCE electronically via the web according to ASME conference guidelines https://ipc.secure-platform.com/a/page/author_resources
2) At least one author must be enrolled as a University Graduate or Undergraduate student in 2025 or 2026.
3) While other authors may be listed on the paper, the student must have contributed the majority of the effort presented and in the writing of the paper (preferably as the first author).
4) The selected finalists will be requested to provide a support letter from their supervisor.
5) Finalists will be notified after acceptance of final papers have been determined through the regular IPCE peer review process. Finalists will then be judged by a committee of pipeline experts selected by the IPCE Organizing Committee and two winners announced.
6) If chosen as a winner, the student author must commit to attend the conference and present their paper in their assigned session. All other finalists will present their paper in accordance with the usual IPCE policies for any paper.
One student author per paper of the top two finalists will receive;
Engraved plaque and certificate from IPCE 2026
Recognition in the IPCE 2026 award announcements and social media
Complimentary conference registration to IPCE 2026
Complimentary registration to one tutorial of choice
Coverage of travel and accommodation cost up to 4,000 CAD, paid after the event (rules apply)
